Developing strength at any age – another great case study
Here is Greg who celebrated his 70th birthday only a couple of weeks ago. Here are some exercises that we have been working on over the past year and he has shown significant progress. Highlights include a 100kg Deadlift, BW Chin Ups for 4 reps and full range Front Foot Elevated Split Squats.
Do not underestimate what you can still achieve in the gym even as you grow older – with the right attitude and consistency you can also be as strong as Greg. Being strong has so many benefits and can set you up for a more fulfilling life over time!
If you like what you see here, give us a call us on 9587 4100 and one of our coaches will get in touch with you to discuss how you can begin your journey too.
And breathe…

Live Well case study: Pregnancy & Training
When I fell pregnant I was initially hesitant about continuing my training…
My goals were to improve my overall strength and lose some centimetres off my midsection, which I was able to achieve with weekly PT sessions.
When I fell pregnant I was initially hesitant about continuing my training, but Chris was very reassuring and was able to tailor my programs to suit each stage of my pregnancy, and was really guided by my changing needs and capabilities each session.
Chris knew that I would need to support my growing belly, but also to prepare my body for breastfeeding, holding a baby, and juggling a pram, baby and shopping at the same time!
As I’m notoriously lazy, none of my friends could believe I was still training while pregnant, and even I surprised myself training up until 37 weeks! That in itself is a testament to how much I enjoy my sessions!
Taking care of one’s physical and mental health is so vital as a new mum, so once I got into a bit of a routine with my baby, and after lockdown, I was happy to get back to the gym six months postpartum. The Live Well team consistently go above and beyond to help their members achieve their goals, and the community is so encouraging and friendly.
2020 Male Client of the Year

Andrew has been nothing but amazing!Throughout the Covid-19 period when gyms were closed, Andrew trained at the park twice a week, in the dark, cold, and wet – barely missing a session. Despite tough times and challenges, Andrew never fails to prevail, going from pain in the knees and lower back to balanced leg development and improved balance and stability. His words – I never realised I had this muscle (hamstrings)!

From not being able to run (due to knee pain) to running in the park, doing exercises that focus on metabolic and cardiorespiratory fitness when equipment was not readily available. Breaking out of the comfort zone and going above and beyond.
He has not only loss weight and gain strength, but feels a whole lot healthier. We all know consistency is hard, so to keep consistent and rise above is exceptional. Training with Andrew, we worked on balance and leg dexterity, which has reduced fall risk and further extends to his water/snow skiing capabilities. Additionally, Andrew went from doing no chin-ups, to doing 4 with plenty more in the tank.

I am a true believer age means nothing!
It’s just a number that creates limitations in our mind that then reflects on to our body and the way we live our life.
Yesterday Bella celebrated her birthday and there were close to ninety candles on the cake.
However this hasn’t stopped her from continuing to build her strength and fitness.
So she can keep doing the things she loves with confidence.
Happy birthday Bella ?

Alex’s Journey
Alex initially entered Live Well to gain an understanding of exercise and a flame to kick start his fitness journey. He wanted to lower his cholesterol, loose his stomach fat, and maintain a balanced healthy lifestyle.
In conjunction with his shift work and nocturnal working hours, we had to find a balance between recovery, functionally, and just feeling good!
After 3 months at Live Well – training twice a week, he can confidently say he feels great! Additionally, he understands how his body moves, especially on the gym floor. The combination of cardiorespiratory exercise to prepare his heart and lungs; and strength training with time under tension to prepare his muscles, tendons, and ligaments throughout the acclimation period has assisted in how Alex functions in and out of the gym.
The progressive overload approach was utilised in order to allow room for optimal growth and reduce the risk of injury. It’s not always about what the results say on paper, but the exercise and nutrition education that will stick around forever.
THE most powerful conversations are the ones we have in our head each and every day.
I’m scared.
I don’t want to do this.
This is too hard.
VS.
I am a strong and confident.
I embrace hard things because they make me better and stronger everyday!
I love solving problems!
THE most powerful conversations are the ones we have in our head each and every day.
And when you’re not waking up with enthusiasm, then this IS a huge opportunity in personal growth for you.
Look, I KNOW the challenges in life can be scary.
But I also know that you must have courage, faith, belief and attack your fears to grow.
Where should you begin?
Start with the way you talk to yourself each day.
Here’s the equation:
Programming → Beliefs → Attitudes → Emotions → Actions → Results.
Where are you getting stuck?
Where do you need to fix the input to produce a better output?
Most people get stuck in either
A) negative attitude
B) processing difficult emotions. This clouds their judgement and holds them back from taking the action required to move forward.
When that’s the case, back up, take a deep breath…
fix your programming…
build up your beliefs…
and you’ll soon find yourself smashing through walls that once held you back.
Keep moving forward!
Why Balance is essential for your Exercise Routine

Like anything you work towards in life, be it work related or health related, results often take time. It doesn’t happen overnight.

Thinking specifically about exercise and health, whilst some lose weight quicker than others, there’s one common trend that must be taken into consideration along the way. During the process and during the at times, “grind”.

What I’m referring to is the balance we adopt. Everyone’s lives are different. Whilst some are heavily involved socially and/or with family, or have a time-demanding hobby, others may be more available with time outside of work. But if we focus too heavily on one thing – be it our time in the gym, or time away from it – the balance will affect our different states of health.

We all aim to be physically healthy, but what’s often neglected is our mental health.

Repetitively doing the same thing can often cause resentment. So if we relate that to fitness, ask yourself a few simple questions:

When was the last time you updated your workout program?
When was the last time you tried a new exercise you’d never done before?
When was the last time you asked someone for advice?
