Watch the chaos dwindle in importance

This lockdown feels like a marathon, but like all Marathon’s they do come to an end.

We’re coming towards the final stage, so keep pushing. Keep doing the right thing. Keep lifting those heavy things, eating healthy meals, going for walks, stimulating your mind, and loving your loved ones. Maintain your social circle, even if it’s not in person. Call, or even FaceTime your parents and grandparents and kids. Maintain these things and watch the chaos dwindle in importance.

Staying healthy will make you more resilient in the face of an immune challenge, but also because personal health will make you more resilient in the face of any challenge that comes your way. And I suspect we will all be dealing with challenges, regardless of how this all plays out. That’s the way life goes: it’s a series of challenges. That’s what makes life exciting.

The couch stretch sucks! Use this version instead
The classic couch stretch is renowned to be the solution for relieving tight quads and hip flexors. The problem with the couch stretch is people often have trouble controlling the relationship between their pelvis and ribcage being aligned, when this relationship between the two is broken, this can result in photo 1 which will actually tighten the low back and hip flexors more due to the weight dumping forward, doing the opposite of what we’re trying to accomplish.
Instead, set yourself up in a tall half kneeling position facing the wall, place your hands against the wall and use that as a constraint, this will shift your weight back into your ribcage so it sits directly under your pelvis. Lastly scoop your hips under, now you’re properly aligned from ribcage to pelvis.
While in this position, with each breath out (think ‘fogging the glass’) press your hands into the wall to reach your shoulder blades forward while maintaining that hip tuck, to create space in the back of your ribcage.
2 sets of 5 breaths (focus on a nice 5 second exhale) and see what happens. Comment below how it went compared to the original couch stretch

We’re All In this Together

I don’t know about you but I’ve really enjoyed watching the Olympics track and field. The highlight for me was watching fellow Australian Ash Moloney in the last event of the Decathlon, the 1500m run. To place third, he had to beat two other particular athletes or not finish more than 9 seconds behind them. On the last lap of the race, it looked like Ash had nothing left, but his teammate and mentor Cedric Dubler ran beside him and scream at him to keep going! It was amazing to watch.
That push and support from his fellow teammate earned him a Bronze Medal. The first time Australia has won a medal in the Decathlon!
This moment reminded me how important it is to have someone to help and support you, especially during the current situation. Things are seeming to fall apart. No one really knows what life will look like in a month. Or even a week. Uncertainty prevails.
Some of you reading this will have lost your job. Or had your hours cut back. Or had your income drop. It’s scary. It’s hard. I understand because, trust me, I’ve been there.
Who can you turn to?
Who turns to you?
We need connection now, more than ever. Take a moment to reach out to someone you love. Even if you haven’t spoken to them in a while.

WINTER SPECIAL – 90% OFF Personal Training
If you leave a car out in the yard for five+ years, it will rust, start to break, and become in-operational. The same thing happens to your body!

Your muscles weaken and slowly deteriorate.without use.

What is the solution? Well, it’s movement. Simply driving that same car will keep it in better condition than if you let it sit. Moving the muscle, preferably against resistance, keeps it healthy.

Movement.

Movement towards a goal.

Movement through space and time.

Move it or lose it.

Motion is lotion.

Fat loss and what YOU need to do!

Losing fat is not easy. If it were easy everyone would be fit and healthy. We are all busy individuals in this crazy world. Everyone needs to work, so how come some people do it better than others? The issue that comes up is human habit and comfortability. Keep in mind that this does not apply to everyone, some people work 40-50 hours/week which makes it a lot harder to get into the gym, however, you can still make it work!

It is easy to sit on the couch and watch television whilst eating ice cream, on the other hand, it requires huge mental fortitude and hard work to bring your heart to 170 BPM on the assault bike after a long day of work (the positives to this is better sleep and appetite i.e. the more you exercise the more you can eat! If you love food like myself, this is a massive bonus). The first couple of steps towards fat loss include:

Make time. Just do something! 10-15 minutes of jogging/walking, a little bit of yoga/balancing work, cooking healthy meals. Actively working towards better health and your goals.

IT’S NOT JUST BUSINESS, IT’S PERSONAL
For 15 years I’ve been focused on helping local working mums, dads, business owners and seniors improve their health. Inspiring them to do the things they thought were impossible, like run a marathon, complete a spartan race or hike a mountain.
In the past 3 years, and especially this past year with our growing family and the world pandemic, the work we do has evolved to mean so much more. Now I’m a husband and Dad. Those roles I get to play mean the world to me.
And I have a whole new level of awareness and understanding around what it means to be a busy parent, juggling the roles we play at home, at work, and doing our best to take care of ourselves and those we get to love on the journey.
It’s hard. Anyone who tells you they’ve got it all figured out isn’t being honest with you or themselves. Every day we face new challenges and get the opportunity to grow and be transformed into something more… if we’re willing to accept the gift of strength that meeting those challenges brings us.
The best is yet to come.
Look after your health while having FUN!
When Mother/Daughter & Father/Son combine to make up ‘The 7pm Clowns’ you know its going to be a good workout.
Two families, the same goal, to look after their health and well being while having fun.
